What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment.
Alex Guaraldi makes some fantastic pedals and he is also making “dark, blusey folk” record as well. This was the inspiration for his Four On The Floor Selections. If you are not familiar with Coppersound Pedal Effects do yourself a favor and check them out. Brian gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out Alex’s choices for his Four On The Floor.
1. Strymon – Deco Tape Saturation and Double Tracker
“This is the what I would consider as the holy grail effect for the purposes of recording a dark bluesy folk record. The Decco is a saturator and double tracker. I really love the saturation of the pre-amp sound. The effect of the wobble on the double tracker is so nice. It really fills out the sound.”

2. Earthquaker Devices – Organizer V2 Polyphonic Organ Emulator
“The Organizer is great for the ‘older lady behind the organ’ sound. I like to use this for eerieness in the upper and lower octave range. It can give you a subtle 12 string sound too. This pedal also has a LAG feature which adds a little bit more delay. It adds just enough dynamic to the sound, to where you don’t notice if it is on but you definitely notice if it has been taken away.”

3. Strymon – Flint Tremolo and Reverb
“This is the first Strymon pedal I ever purchased. I use this primarily for the over-the-top reverb sound, if you will because most of the amps I am using have reverb plus I will use my Daedalus reverb pedal for the always-on kind of thing. The Flint is great for the ‘forever Decay’ so it’s prominent but not in your way. Plus you can still do things over it for textures. It also has tremolo, tap tempo, and stereo which are all super cool.”

4. Strymon – El Capistan Tape Echo
“I love having the tap tempo on the fly, which is very helpful to me. I love the sound of the wow and flutter effects as well as the tape age and crinkle choices. This is a big one because the record I’m doing is very dark and lo-fi, so this suits my needs very well. One of the lesser-known features that I like is a looper so that you can record as usual for a looper, but all the effects knobs are still functioning! So you can make it begin to disintegrate and fade out while you are still playing over it. I believe you can find this effect if you are in C mode with both toggle switches down. I think it gives you about 10-14 seconds of loop time. I know it is a delay, but I don’t use heavy delay for this music just the other effects, plus it’s stereo. ”
