FOUR ON THE FLOOR – KEVIN EQUITZ OF EQUITZ GUITARS

The Guitar Knobsblog

What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment.

With his background in design, Kevin Equitz brings an experienced and discerning eye to his guitar design. But he is relatively new to the pedal game, as he was a self proclaimed guitar-to-amp kind of guy. If you are not familiar with Equitz Guitars do yourself a favor and check it out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Kevin does has not amassed a huge collection of pedals…yet, but these pedals are his standard go-to’s. Check out Kevin’s choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. Pelican Noiseworks – 50/50 Dual Overdrive

“This pedalwas a collaboration between my good friends at Pelican Noiseworks and the 60 Cycle Hum podcast. Its a dual drive modeled after the DOD 250 pre-amp stacked side by side. This one was great for me because I’ve always been just a guitar-to-amp person, so it’s nice just having the drive stages. You can set one drive to be light and the other to be heavy. There are light and dark setting for each as well. Its a real simple pedal and for me, simple is great. I don’t need a ton of switches and dials. The 50/50 is a definite go-to for me.” Check out the Pelican Noiseworks – 50/50 Dual Overdrive

2. Pelican Noiseworks – Half Horse Fuzz

“This is half of the popular Pelataur pedal. It features a big single knob for gain which is actually labeled “GRAIN” which sweeps through the ample range of fuzz. It has a great spectrum, from a real gated sound to a big rich classic fuzz. It has been a lot of fun because fuzz is kind of new to me.” Check out the Pelican Noiseworks – Half Horse Fuzz

3. Walrus Audio –
ARP-87 Multi-Function Delay

“This has four delay settings: Digital, Analog, Lo-fi, and Slap Back. For my purposes, I really like the Lo-Fi setting, though I will switch back and forth between that and the Analog setting. It has a cool modulation effect as well as tap tempo. I like to use it for long trailing delays. It is easy to use and does exactly what I am looking for in delay sounds. It looks cool too!” Check out the Walrus Audio – ARP-87 Multi-Function Delay

4.Danelectro – Dan Echo (Vintage)

“This was the first pedal I bought for myself and have held on to it ever since, so there is a bit of a nostalgia thing for me. It is an old pedal. Even Though the Walrus Audio ARP-87 has Slap Back, I use this pedal for that effect. It has a real cool tape delay sound and is a lot of fun to play through. The Dan Echo is a big pedal with an odd footprint but I love it.” Check out the Danelectro – Dan Echo (Vintage)
