FOUR ON THE FLOOR – ALEX MILLAR FOUNDER OF ZANDER CIRCUITRY

The Guitar Knobsblog

What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment.

Alex designs some of the most useful and feature loaded pedals our there. His pedals have focus but loads of range within that focus for unexpected things to happen. If you are not familiar with Zander Circuitry do yourself a favor and check him out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out Alex’s choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. Raygun FX – Dual Soda Drive

“It’s a hard one to explain but its essentially two of the same pedals in one enclosure. Raygun has a pedal called the soda drive, so this is just two of them in series. The Soda Drive is a bit of mix between a Tube Screamer and a Rat. So it has a high gain Tube Screamerish sound. I have an older one, and I think the new one has a three-way toggle on it that changes the clipping diodes on it that changes between overdrive and fuzzy sound. it’s an amazing pedal. ”

2. Caroline Guitar Company – Meteore Reverb

“It’s a really cool lo-fi springy sound, and the foot switch lets it ring out in dissonant feedback like you get from an old delay. I tend to use reverbs in a traditional reverb way, dialing in a clean sound, drenching it in reverb and letting the sound ring out. But that momentary switch lets it just ring out, but its weird, it’s not a particularly musical sound because it gets quite dissonant, but it’s so cool.”

3. DOD – Rubberneck Delay

“This is their new analog delay, but it has extra features like tap tempo and the switch that’s actually called rubberneck that does something really cool with the speed. But the main thing for me it that it has a send and return for the wet signal. I think that in their demo video they put their flanger through it. This opens it up completely to make the delay anything you want because you can put whatever effects you want that are affected in the wet signal so your dry signal stays the same. ”

4. Hexe – Melusine III Phonograph Simulator

“This is a weird pedal and I can only describe it as a vinyl record simulator. It’s a weird vibrato pedal that lets you control noise and filter, which bring in the dust and scratches of an old vinyl record. So it sounds like you have recorded your guitar on a vinyl record. I’ve been obsessed with lo-fi sounds lately and this is just perfect.”
