FOUR ON THE FLOOR-DAVE DENTON OF SEAFOAM PEDALS

The Guitar Knobsblog

What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment. Dave places a great degree of heart into building his pedals and only wants to make things that stand alone. His choices have a reputation of that as well. If you are not familiar with Seafoam Pedals do yourself a favor and check them out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out these choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. Origin Effects – Cali76 Compressor

“I always use a compressor and there’s a compressor that I love pretty much more than any other one that I’ve tried, which there have been a lot. Um, cause I play single coils into Fender and Vox style amps a lot. And so just to beef them up and make them sound like a guitar should come in through the amp. I use a compressor. So the Cali76 is on my board all the time.

2. Maxon – OD-820 Overdrive

“This is my favorite drive pedal of all time. It came out oddly, pretty quickly after the Klon was released, and Maxon, the original Tube Screamer company…(and I’m sure there’s people that would fight me on that, but to discriminate developers, I’ll say that)… they released a pedal called the OD 820. It features some of the same type of circuitry as the Klon. It has internal 18 volt, so it doubles from nine volt to 18. Also, it has a dual concentric gain pot, so there’s a clean blend and gain just like the Klon. So basically they took some of the features of the Klon and applied it to a Tube Screamer circuit, the perfect storm.”

3. Strymon – Timeline Delay

“I remember when the pedal came out, some friends of mine were on the waiting list to get it and I thought they were crazy. One of them, they finally got their timeline. I played it in that, I ordered it that day. Such a good pedal! It’s been out maybe ten years I think but still, the algorithms inside are just so good, so clear. I use about four to five of the algorithms. So for each of those I have a preset that I go to. I use the dual delay which has a dotted 8th note for one side and a quarter note on the other side. I use the analog a lot, the tape echo a lot, and then I’ll use a lo-fi occasionally, oh and also the tremolo occasionally.”

4. Line 6 – HX Stomp Multi-Effects Floor Processor

Just for the sheer amount of power and the things that this can do this is a must. Having the ability to load your own impulse responses is great. Also if anything ever happens, like if the amp goes down live, being able to plug straight in direct to the house board is pretty handy. The reverbs are great if I ever need to do like a dual effect where one side of phaser and the other side is a vibrato, you know, something super strange, you can route it on that pedal. The stomp also has its own amps and cabs. If I had to have a fly-rig and it could only carry one pedal, that would be it.
