FOUR ON THE FLOOR-ERIC CALVERT OF FROST GIANT ELECTRONICS

The Guitar Knobsblog

What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment. Eric is in the business of making big noise, both as a builder and as a musician. His pedal choices are a reflection of that. If you are not familiar with Frost Giant Electronics do yourself a favor and check them out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out these choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. ProCo – RAT 2 Distortion

“I’d have to say my number one will always be the RAT. I love that pedal so much. It’s everything to me. I’ve had so many different rats. I mean, I could write a novel on it. I’d have to say the 90’s RAT 2 will always be my favorite version. It’s right when the LED got put in. The still kept the LM308 Opamp up to 2001 and to be honest I have some issues with that whole ‘mojo’ situation. That said this version has got a lot more cut and it’s more of an actual distortion feel and tube amped feel pedal oppose to the early eighties versions. It’s a perfect pedal to me. I mean, you can put it in front of a Marshall, you can put it on a clean amp and it’s just it’s everything.

2. Mr. Black – Supermoon Chrome Reverb

“I’ve used a lot of different reverbs and delays all that kind of stuff. But the first time I got out to the trails, Oh my God. It is called The Sway and it is amazing. That reverb and that type of modulation was eye-opening for me.”

3. Dunwich – DA120 Overdrive

“It’s an overdrive by my buddy, which he did a couple of different versions of them. And I got this custom one and this dude just does amazing stuff like his he’s a mad genius. I love his stuff, everything that he makes, and this is like a perfect amp in a box. I love it. I think it’s just beastly.”

4. Real McCoy – Perfect 10 Wah

It is a real old school kind of build. The travel on it has a kind of phaser like pull to it. I’ve thrown up a couple of different old build pedals like Tone Benders and Fuzz Faces on with it and this just holds them really well. This thing is solid and holds up like a champion. I busted about three or four different Wahs. I’m a real hard on my gear and this thing’s been just holding its own for years.
