FOUR ON THE FLOOR-MARKO VUKOVIC OF TOURGEAR DESIGNS

The Guitar Knobsblog

What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment. Marko’s TourGear patch cables are just what your pedals need! Speaking of pedals, as a bass player, Marko had some interesting choices for his pedals. If you are not familiar with TourGear Designs do yourself a favor and check them out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out these choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. Tech 21 – SansAmp YYZ

“This is the Geddy Lee signature model. I moved to Canada in my teens and, and because I’m a bass player, of course I had to get into Rush. I really love his sound and this one can replicate his it really well. You can also add more to it and you can play around with it. So it’s kind of like you are using his gear, but you get to do your own thing, which I find really cool. I’ve also recorded three albums with SansAmp before, and I’ve always loved what they do.

2. Old Blood Noise – Haunt Fuzz V1

“When I first saw their videos on YouTube, I was like, Ooh, these guys are doing something cool and just had to get one of these. I bought it from a friend of mine when I was living in Czech Republic. I love all of their stuff, but this is the first one from Old Blood Noise that I ever had.”

3. Electro-Harmonix – Big Muff Pi Classic

“Athough I like the Russian version with giant black box, I selected this one because of the way it sounds on the guitar. On bass it still sounds good don’t get me wrong. But when I played this with my guitar and I played with the Dimebag signature wah pedal, the sound on it is just amazing. I really like the sustain you get out of. It is great. And especially when you crank it for any type of orange amp the sound is brutal and it’s also good for like pop rock too. You can put it into any genre really, which I really like as well. Early on I had played a few fuzzes, but I first saw this one when I was hanging around my Italian friend who was mainly playing like electronic music with it. And that was the only like pedal that he was using. I was really intrigued why is this a guy who doesn’t play rock music, but uses this fuzz. I saw that it’s a very diverse pedal. There’s something about it. It’s not too much in your face and It’s also clear at the same time. When I tried some other fuzz pedals on bass, I don’t like it. It just sounds too muddy. But this one still has an edge to it, but it’s clean at the same time. It’s like a nice mix.”

4. Boss – Metal Zone (yep!)

“This is actually the first pedal that I ever bought. I love this pedal. When I first started playing guitar I was really into the band At The Gates and loved the album In flames. When I found out that they were using the Metal Zone for their actual sound, I got it. And it’s just one that always kept. I like how I can dial in a lot of good tones. The one thing about this one is a lot of people don’t actually know how to use it that well. So it kind of gets a bad rap from a lot of people, but most people that I know who have it say they love it. Even retailers that I know say the same thing, that a lot of people don’t know how to use a pedal cause you got to play around with it. But when you actually do figure out how it works, it can give you some really good sounds. I’m actually surprised that it does not as much credit as it should.”
