What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment.
Matthew Needham’s clean-lined, modern approach to guitars is a study in subtlety and control. If you are not familiar with Needham Guitars do yourself a favor and check him out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out Matthew’s choices for his Four On The Floor.
1. Boss – TR-2 Tremolo
“I just love tremolo. I’ve had quite a few tremolo pedals over the years, but somehow this one always has made it onto my board. Boss are great pedals and I’ve had 3 or 4 of these over time. It just sounds right.”

2. Danelectro – Dan Echo
“It’s pretty wild looking but so solid in it’s build. It is by far one of the best sounding tape echo emulators. I’ve had several of these over the years. I keep repurchasing them!”

3. Tech 21 – Comptorsion Compressor & Distortion
“This is a weird pedal for me, but I really like it. I actually use this as my main distortion, and I do max it out. I will also max out the compression often as well and run them both full on; it sounds pretty interesting.”

4. Kay – T1 Tremolo
“It almost sounds like a wah to me, and it has the motion of one. It is used all over the soundtrack to the movie Slingblade, which made an impression on me. It has such an amazing sweep of the speed of the tremolo. I guess I really like tremolo hah. It’s actually made out of plastic, so it is a bit cheesy, but it looks like billeted valve covers.”
