What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment. Nick was a great guest and you like making noise without extra noise you are sure to like his pedals. If you are not familiar with Dirty Haggard Audio do yourself a favor and check them out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out these choices for his Four On The Floor.
1. Audio Disruption Devices – Optical Ring Modulation System
“On his Instagram he asked other builders if we want to do a trade? And I was like, yeah! So basically I just said, I want something that sounds, uh, F’d up. And he’s like, do you want…THIS? And I was like, yes, I do! It’s a ring modulator and a fuzz pedal and a tremolo, all in one plus more. It is really awesome. He gave me the custom, beat-up version so it looks like it’s been on tour for probably 30 years. It’s great. When I make a recording I do a lot of overdubs and lead parts with the most messed up sounding equipment I can find because when I layer it with a really good tone, I just think the sound just pops. It sounds so dense and unique. This is one of those pedals that makes those sounds.“

2. Peppers Pedals – The Satanist Distortion
“It’s a collaboration between Transmutation Devices and Peppers Pedals. It’s like the most tastefully tuned metal pedal that I have ever come across. Normally for metal pedals, the gain is just like at 120 at all times and you can’t do anything about it. But this one, even at maximum gain you can still make it great sounding. It doesn’t sound over the top. It doesn’t sound like it’s trying to make it super metal I guess. For rhythm tones, for heavy palm muting and stuff, it’s just really, really chunky.”

3. Spun Loud Effects – Blister and Peel Fuzz Drive
“I got this on trade with Dan from Spun Loud Effects in Seattle. It’s two pedals in one basically. they’re both kinda low to mid-gain fuzz pedals. So you can get a lot of really cool, like overdrive kind of sounds out of it. But then if you activate both of them at once, particularly with the front one with all knobs on maximum, it just gives you that like absolutely perfect torn speaker fuzz sound. It’s another absolutely amazing recent find.”

4. Digitech – RP50 Multi-Effects
“I’ve already mentioned I love using the most like gnarly screwed up sounding pedals while recording. So everyone hates this pedal. Everybody. I have the 50, a lot of people have the 55 and 100 or whatever. The 50 is like a million different digital effects in one. It sounds God awful if you play it by itself, but it’s got these really cool octave sounds and it’s all digital so you can play chords and it doesn’t have any tracking issues. The last industrial noise metal album that I recorded has so many overdubs with really proper sounding rhythm guitars, you get this great tube sound, and then you have this strange digital quirky sound on the top of it. They separate themselves in the mix so brilliantly.“
