FOUR ON THE FLOOR-TIM THELEN OF BILT GUITARS

The Guitar Knobsblog

What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment. While Tim is admittedly not a pedal fiend, he picked some great ones. More importantly, he makes awesome guitars to feed those pedals. If you are not familiar with BilT Guitars do yourself a favor and check them out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out these choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. Marshall – Shredmaster Distortion

“One of the first pedals that I ever bought back in the early nineties when I bought myself a Musician’s Friend catalog. I don’t know how I got that catalog. I lived in a small town in Iowa. I ordered a Marshall Shredmaster Distortion. It was my way of trying to get a metal sound. It was just kind of this weird series of pedals that Marshall released back in the early nineties. I can still remember reading the copy in the catalog cause I just sat there and read it a million times. But, you know they referenced Megadeath in it and not that I was a huge Megadeath fan, but I was like, okay, you know, I just am not getting what I want out of the cheap distortion pedal or whatever I had at the time so that’s what I got.

2. MXR – Carbon Copy Analog Delay

“I know that pedal inside and out to the point of whenever they do a version change on the circuit board. It’s been around for ages for good reason. Recently they’ve tweaked the modulation a little bit to make it a little ‘pitch fun’.

3. BilT Guitars – BilT Fuzz

This is our own fuzz that we make, which is loosely based off of a bunch of different fuzzes and one specifically that we, you know, that that allows for oscillation, which is kind of the big thing that we put into the Relevator so that you can play around with that and just, you know, make it wacky. We’ve been prototyping around it for years but we just kind of sat back on that. But we have a bunch of these prototypes around and they’re awesome and they’re super fun to play with.

4. Dwarfcraft Devices – Eau Claire Thunder Fuzz

Eau Claire thunder is super duper versatile. That’s it. I think it sounds fantastic and Aen is a great dude so that makes it even more desirable for me to have. One one hand it is a really familiar sounding fuzz but it has loads of variable tones with the Toneblast Knob, momentary feedback loop, and timewarp switch.
