What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment.
It is safe to say that while our friend ‘Wooly’ does make us smile, he is not making anything safe. I recently desicribed the sound his pedals make as “a dumptruck with veclcro tires rolling down a velcro highway” so if you think you might like that, dig in. If you are not familiar with Champion Leccy do yourself a favor and check him out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out Wooly’s choices for his Four On The Floor.
1. Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi (Black Russian) Fuzz
“That’s the pedal that does it. It’s perfect. Iv’e fixed a few and it’s so simple. It’s not a big circuit, and there is all the empty space but when you turn it on it sounds like it fills the whole box all up. But there is something about these that’s different from the other big muffs. Its got the bite. The presentation is great too, they’re beautiful. All of the old Russian stuff doesn’t age terribly well but that’s what makes it look like ‘class’ as well.”

2. Mooer – Pure Octave
“This is a simple Octave pedal that does two octaves above and two below. They are cheap and cheerful!. I didn’t want something that sounded perfect like another guitarist was playing along with you, I wanted messy octave fuzz noise. I’ve used this before fuzz and after fuzz, and honestly, they both sound so good. It’s all great harmonic content. People often like to slag-off things that come from China, and sometimes they are right, but Mooer has been really solid. Very well built.”

3. Wampler – Faux Tape Echo V1 Delay
“This has been on my board since I bought it. I knew what I wanted in a delay, and I tried almost everything. A shop owner suggested I check out this pedals and I thought it didn’t look like it was up to much, but gave it a shot and it was fantastic. I love the tap tempo and especially the wobble. I love things that are out of tune and out of time.”

4. Dwarfcraft Devices – The Internet Overdrive
“A rather amusing pedal, based on the control names. It’s a very gritty overdrive with two footswitches that make things loud and louder. It’s spot on for me. A friend of mine turned me one to it, and the first time I heard it, I was hooked. You know when you hear something, and you just have to have it! So I was in Japan and tracked one down and was so afraid someone else would get it so that I couldn’t leave the case and I just stared at it. It’s an amazing looking pedal too. It seems to have slipped by a lot of people, but it is just fantastic. Another great thing about this pedal is that it stacks really well with other overdrives.”
